"I always knew you'd end up in a crow's cage."
Airk Thaughbaer, to Madmartigan, in Willow

A crow's cage was an iron cage suspended to a high wooden scaffolding.[1] Criminals were imprisoned without food or water, until they died of dehydratation and starvation.[3] And the bodies were left up for all to see as a warning. The members of the Nelwyn expedition sent by the High Aldwin to return Elora Danan to the Daikinis encountered Madmartigan, who happened to be locked up in a crow's cage at the Daikini crossroads. There were also a number of such cages at Queen Bavmorda's castle in Nockmaar.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

The crow's cages in Willow were made of real iron, which caused an accident during filming. On one occasion, the chain holding the cage up broke, and the cage fell onto Val Kilmer's right foot. Because of that, Kilmer has a visible, if slight, limp in some scenes.[4]
