Ballantine was a Daikini who served as the Commander of the Pacalcade of Tir Asleen.
Character history[]
...but when Ballantine took an interest, he gave me something that I'd never had, a way to use my anger, to channel it into becoming something. - Jade Claymore, Episode 4
As a member of the Knights of the Pacalcade, Ballantine served the royal family of Tir Asleen. Ballantine was the Commander of the Knights of the Pacalcade, reporting to Queen Sorsha, and was assigned to protect the kingdom of Tir Asleen. He raised Jade Claymore from a young age after her parents were killed.[1] He was a mentor to Jade Claymore, who described their relationship as the source of her own focus and drive to be a knight. After Dove unknowningly left the kingdom, Sorsha tasked Ballantine to go get her. He agreed, however he was infected by The Lich and his loyalty shifted to The Crone. En route to find Elora, Ballantine attacked his men, Merrick and Keene, and infected them as well.[2]
Ballatine and his men successfully find Elora and grab her, however they are confronted by Willow Ufgood, Jade Claymore, Kit Tanthalos, Graydon Hastur and Thraxus Boorman, who are trying to get Elora back. A fight ensues, however the Knights were able to escape and take Elora. Later Elora managed to cut her bonds and escape into the forest but she was reacaptured and Ballatine killed Hubert, who, along with Anne, had been sheltering her. Elora's companions again caught up with them at the site of the ruins of the The Slaughtered Lamb, and another battle began. During the battle Willow cast a powerful spell, killing Keene and Merrick, and serious wounding Ballatine, who briefly returned to his normal self. He told Jade he was proud to have raised her and that only she could save Elora. He then asked Jade to "release" him and so she stabbed him, killing him.[3]
Personality, appearance and traits[]
Ballantine is a good and honorable man until he gets infected by The Lich. He is proud of Jade, his adopted daughter and apprentice, for her fighting skill.
